About Emirates

Emirates is the flag carrier airline of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and one of the largest international airlines in the world by scheduled revenue passenger-kilometres flown. Founded in 1985 with just two aircraft and a handful of routes, the airline has grown into a global aviation powerhouse operating to more than 140 destinations across six continents.

Owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, Emirates is renowned for its premium onboard product β€” including its iconic First Class Private Suites, lie-flat Business Class beds, and award-winning in-flight entertainment system ICE (Information, Communication, Entertainment), which consistently wins the title of World's Best Inflight Entertainment at the Skytrax awards.

Emiratesoperates the world's largest fleets of both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 777, making it the only airline to fly both types as its primary widebody aircraft. Dubai International Airport (DXB) serves as the airline's sole hub, and its geographical position between East and West enables Emirates to connect passengers between virtually any two points on the globe with a single stop.

Emiratestravel extends beyond the aircraft cabin through its chauffeur-drive service for premium passengers, dedicated airport lounges, and the Emirates Skywards frequent flyer programme β€” one of the most expansive loyalty programmes in the industry. The airline is not a member of any of the three major global alliances, preferring instead to pursue bilateral partnerships and codeshare agreements with select carriers worldwide.

Excess baggage fees

Emirates allows passengers to travel with a free checked baggage allowance based on route and ticket class, while any luggage exceeding the permitted weight, size, or number of bags attracts excess baggage charges that vary by destination. Economy passengers on most African and international routes typically receive at least one 23kg checked bag, while Business Class passengers receive higher allowances. Extra baggage fees are charged through to the final destination, and passengers are encouraged to prepay online where available to reduce airport costs. Kenya Airways also permits baggage pooling for families or groups traveling together on the same itinerary, although weight limits still apply per individual bag.

Prohibited items

Emirates prohibits passengers from carrying dangerous or restricted items in either checked or hand baggage for safety reasons. These include explosives, fireworks, flammable liquids, compressed gases, poisons, radioactive or corrosive materials, pepper sprays, and other hazardous substances. Sharp objects, firearms, and offensive weapons are not allowed in the cabin and may only be accepted as checked baggage under strict authorization and documentation requirements.
