About ITA

ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) is Italy's national flag carrier, born in October 2021 from the restructuring of the long-standing Alitalia brand. Headquartered in Rome, the airline was established by the Italian government to create a leaner, more competitive national carrier capable of connecting Italy with destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the Americas, and Asia.

Flying under the IATA code AZ, ITA Airways operates an all-Airbus fleet that is one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient in Europe. The airline's fleet strategy centres on the Airbus A320 family for short- and medium-haul routes, while the widebody A330-200, A330-900neo, and A350-900 power long-haul intercontinental services.

ITA Airways joined the SkyTeam global alliance in 2024, giving passengers seamless connections and reciprocal frequent-flyer benefits with member carriers including Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines, and Korean Air. The airline's primary hub is Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), one of Southern Europe's busiest international gateways, supplemented by Milan Linate (LIN) for domestic and European services.

The carrier's product includes three cabin classes on long-haul routes β€” Business, Premium Economy, and Economy β€” alongside a dedicated loyalty programme, Volare, which rewards members with points redeemable across flights and partner services.

ITA Airways has pursued rapid commercial expansion since launch, growing its network to more than 60 destinations and signing a landmark partnership with Lufthansa Group, which acquired a significant equity stake in the airline in 2024. This strategic alliance accelerates fleet growth, network integration, and service development as ITA Airways establishes itself as a modern, sustainable European flag carrier.

With a focus on Italian style, warm hospitality, and a commitment to reducing its environmental footprint through next-generation aircraft, ITA Airways aims to be the natural choice for travellers flying to, from, and within Italy.
